Well, we officially have an infectious house, diagnosed as such by two different doctors. The morning started with me going to the doctor for a stupid sore that developed on my ear. Actually, to be blunt, it was an infected pimple. Okay, so I thought when I turned 30 last week that I officially would be in adulthood, which to me means having its advantages like not getting pimples anymore. I mean, don't we get some advantages from getting old? However, not only do I still get pimples, but at a time in my life when I don't have time to deal with anything else, one gets infected and hurts pretty badly. So, I went in to see a doctor for the first time in 4 1/2 years. He kept asking me if I wanted to run any other routine tests (like Cholesterol, Diabetes, etc.). I felt like screaming at him that I had exactly one hour in my day with my mom watching Lexi so I could actually run to the doctor for myself, and that I didn't have time to do anything "extra." I also wanted to scream that there is just nothing routine about my life right now. If I had my preference, I would have called in, asked for a prescription, and not even gone in personally to the see the doctor. However, I decided that my rants probably would have ended up in a discussion about post-partum depression (don't you love that a little stress after having a baby always gets termed that...if you don't know what I'm talking about, go see Marly and Me) and a subsequent checking into the loony bin, so I politely said not today and ran with my prescription.Lexi also had her 6-month check up today. We were glad, as the cough we mentioned earlier seemed to suddenly get worse the last two days, even though she still has not experienced a fever and there is no discoloration in her discharge. Anyway, the doctor took one look at her and said that she either has (1) pneumonia, (2) RSV, or (3) Bronchitis. She also confirmed that there is fluid in her lungs. So, after all of our hard work in keeping her quarantined (even when we were back home for Christmas), and not knowing a single person who has been sick recently besides Brian, she still contracted exactly what we didn't want her to get. I was afraid it was going to lead her back to the hospital. Instead, we got sent home with a nebulizer machine to do albuterol treatments every 4-6 hours. Lexi hates the treatments, so in my mind, they are just another thing that drives a wedge between my daughter and me. It goes on the long list headed by feeding her, giving her tummy time, and wiping her nose. I guess a mom has to do what a mom has to do. I'm just glad that we are avoiding the hospital for now. We especially are hopeful that she is all clear in a few days, so we can run the tests we need to and don't have to push back her surgery in February.
Other than her cold, though, the doctor was pleased with her development. She weighed in at 14lbs, 12 oz, and went from just below to just above the 25th percentile in weight. Her length was 24, and she jumped from the 3rd to the 10th percentile. The doctor was also pleased with her butt, now that it is finally rash free. So, although we have some sort of sickness to deal with, all in all the little monkey is doing well. We're hoping by next week at this time, we can officially take our house off the infectious disease list, and everyone will be well once again.
