Apparently Lexi has developed a fear of animal sounds…who knew a kid could do that when I don’t think she has even seen a cow in person? We have been working on different developmental items with her recently. One thing we are trying to work on are animal sounds. However, the minute you say an animal sound, she bursts into tears. So, although the experts say that is something you should work on, do you really torture your kid in order to show them off to other people about how smart they are? Or, do you wait until they get over their fear of animals (and who knows where that comes from!?!?), and then try to teach them then? Is there really a specific time that each child should learn each ability in life? Or, do we simply allow them to explore their world and learn on their terms? So far, we have had experts telling us to force the issue, but we see how well that worked with the bottle. We might avoid the scary animals for a while until she is ready to face whatever fears she has, and then maybe she will be more apt to learning to say, "moo." Bottom line, we are very proud of all the gross motor, fine motor, and cognitive abilities she has, and we don't have anything to prove to anyone. However, being from Iowa, we are slightly disappointed that she doesn’t appreciate the cows!
