The Cheerios Kid

Unfortunately, we were wise in taking Lexi to the doctor on Monday, as it turned out our favorite kid who just can't catch a break has pneumonia. However, this time Lexi was able to keep her oxygen saturation levels around 95 when tested, so we have been able to keep her out of the hospital thus far. She seems to be doing really well on her antibiotics, and her cough has been improving each day, so hopefully we're on the road to recovery.

For the most part, we have been keeping a low profile this week, but yesterday we did meet a NICU nurse for lunch, which was fun. That prompted a discussion on real food (i.e. not baby food or puffs), and afterwards I decided to give her a first taste of it. On the advice of my sister, who is deathly afraid of a child choking, I gave Lexi Cheerios as her first food, as she informed me that if it were to get lodged in her throat, there would still be a hole that she could breathe through. That's a comforting thought. We had to start somewhere, though, and we already had a cute shirt to match the Cheerios eating experience thanks to a great friend at General Mills, so we went for it. Lexi was excited and loved her Cheerios, as you can see below!

I can't believe I convinced Mom to give me Cheerios at 9 months of age!

I think I'll start with the furthest one away to prove I'm an overachiever!

Yeah! I finally got it into my mouth (and my whole fist for good measure!)

Mmmmmmmm. These are yummy!

Almost done, but I think there might be a couple more hiding behind this ledge!

Cubs Fever

We had an exciting weekend. Some friends Brian used to work with at Deere came down for the Cubs/ Cards game on Friday night. The boys went to the game, and the girls went shopping and out to dinner. Lexi tolerated the outing pretty well despite it being past her bedtime, but she started to develop a cold, so she was coughing pretty hard.

Unfortunately by Sunday afternoon, she was running a 101 degree fever and wanting to do nothing but sleep. We allowed her to do that in between periods of trying to force Pedialyte in her to keep her hydrated. We gave her a little Tylenol as well, and that appeared to allow her fever to break last night. She is feeling much better today, but we are still headed to see the pediatrician to make certain everything checks out okay. So, we went from the excitement of friends in town and new Cubs outfits to show off, to the unwanted excitement of elevated temps... welcome to parenthood!
