Honesty

We went to ChuckECheese for a birthday party. They have a new system where there are no longer coins. You now have a card that you electronically scan. As soon as I saw that, I told Conner to keep it in his pocket. Soon I saw that they have wrist bands you can attach it to. So, I went to purchase them to give to the kids. As soon as I came to Conner, he hung his head and admitted he had lost his card.

He then began to pout all the way through the pizza and cupcakes. He then wanted to hang on my leg. I said instead of pouting, why don't you do something about it. I told him he could walk around and look for the card or go ask if anyone had turned one in.

He looked around for a while with no success. Then came to get me to go up to the counter. I told him he lost it, so he had to go by himself to the counter. I watched him walk up and then saw the worker hand him a card. He looked at it, shook his head, and handed it back. The worker looked confused and handed it back to him again. Conner again handed it back and the worker have it to him again. Conner then walked over to me with a tear in his cheek with his head hung down. He explained that they had found a card, but it had someone else's name on it as he showed me a card with the name Gareth. He was trying to explain to the worker that wasn't his name or his card.

We then had a long talk about honesty and how good that was that he said that wasn't his card or name. We talked about how when you are honest or make good choices that things come your way.  I explained that since the worker said he could have the card anyway that it was ok to take and it was his reward for being honest.

As annoyed as I was that he lost that card, I was now so grateful as it taught him a great lesson.
