Kankles

As soon as the kids got on their pajamas for bed, we quickly noticed that Alexis was really limping on her right foot. I took a closer look, and saw that it was really swollen. On Thursday and Friday, she had limped on and off. I had looked several times, and saw nothing except for a mosquito bit. I thought maybe her night braces or the bug bite was just bugging her, so kept an eye on it, but since her limp came and went didn't think anything of it.

After seeing the swelling tonight, we quickly called the oncologist on call who said given swelling and her low ANC, they wanted us to bring her into the Emergency room. So, we headed to the hospital around 8:00 with a night bag, since they said they wanted to admit her for observations. Upon arriving, we were taken to xray where they determined no break, fracture, or infection within the bone. These were all really good news.

The bad news is that although her counts were off indicating an infection, we don't know if those are off due to chemo or the infection in her leg or both. Tomorrow we will talk with the oncologist as well as the PT and possibly ortho to determine why her leg has swollen to give her bigger kankels than an eight month pregnant lady in the summer.

Fresh Air

Taking advantage of the nice weather that still allows us to get out even though Aexis counts are still low. Her ANC came back at mid 300, which is up from last week, but still low. They said since it is trending up, she's probably okay to go back to school next week as long as there are no major illnesses.

Today we started with a special lunch of pancakes from dad. The kids loved having that for lunch and their special bejeweled chocolate chip pancakes!

Then, we headed out to a park to play with balls as well as on the playground. The kids had fun playing soccer and baseball. They also loved the new playground we found. Always fun to explore a new place!

Tuesday Zoo

We decided since it was beautiful weather and Alexis was off school that we would head to the zoo. It was not busy at all and we had a great time! Might as well take advantage of her being off school!

Bison and Birds

Conner woke us up this morning and requested to go to Lone Elk Park. So, we jumped in the car and headed down there. We were jus in time to see the bison. Then, Brian offered to let Conner drive. So, he took the wheel with no help from dad. Mom sat in the passenger seat scared out of her mind. It was quickly decided that as teenagers dad might have to do the driving lessons. Mom did veto him driving along the cliff in the park!

We then went to the bird sanctuary across the street. The kids had been there once before, but it was just a bunch of eagles and Hawks on chains and kind of depressing. So, we had never gone back. We decided to go with dad, and we're so glad we did! Turns out we arrived right as the keeper chat was starting. We got a personalized tour and all sorts of information about all the birds they have rescued and released back into the wild. The ones that remain are ones with broken wings or eye sight that wouldn't allow them to survive on their own in the wild. That made it so much better! The kids even got to pet a pigeon that was born the day before. Turned out to be a great morning!
