Eggs

We started the day at Chuck E Cheese celebrating cousins Jack's 6th birthday. This is the first time Alexis has been to Chuck E Cheese in probably two years. We were a little nervous taking her there, as it seems like a lot of germs and a lot of little kids in a little area, but didn't feel like we could tell her not to go to her cousin't party. There were very few kids there at the beginning, and all the kids had a blast playing, with all of their favorite being the basketball hoop. Around noon, it started to get busier and the party was coming to a close, so we took a swift exit to keep things a little safe.

We then died Easter eggs with the cousins. More accurately, Gavin dunked the same egg in the container so many times, got excited, and then spilled the dye everywhere! He loved dying the eggs. The other two enjoyed it as well, but not quite as much as the pure pleasure of messiness from a one year old!

Leukemia Won

We spent the day playing with cousins. In the afternoon, we decided to go with them to church to make pretzels and attend Good Friday service.

However, minutes after Alexis bit into her pretzel, I realized that her eating the pretzel throws off her entire chemo schedule. Her afternoon chemo has to be given two hours after food and an hour before food (or on a completely empty stomach). It also needs to be given within an hour of the same time each day. So, the fact that she had just eaten the pretzel a half hour before her chemo time meant we were going to have to wait longer and throw off her chemo time.

Needless to say, I was a little upset about our inability to plan properly and angry at the fact that we couldn't do a simple thing like go to Good Friday church service without complications. Considering this will be our daily routine for the next year and a half, it is a little depressing.

We quickly left, skipped church and grabbed an early dinner for her. He got her chemo (about an hour late), but we are hoping in the grand scheme of things that doesn't impact things. These kind of scenarios makes it a little hard to "live life and don't live I leukemia." Leukemia won on this one!

New Routine

Alexis went in for her next round of spinal chemo today, since they weren't able to do it last week. We also had a doctor appointment, so she got to see two of her favorite nurses, Britney and Katherine, which she loved.

We headed down to the APC for her procedure. One of her favorite nurses, Karen, was there as well. She had gotten Alexis a little Easter gift, which she loved. We just love all the wonderful people taking care of her.

While Alexis gets put under, Brian and I usually grab a quick bite to pass the time. Today, I turned in line, and right behind me was the anesthesiologist. I said, "Ben, aren't you supposed to be upstairs taking care of my daughter?" He replied that she was already done and awake. Since this was the first time we had him, he was a little surprised I just blurted that out, but surprised me. She has to stay in a flat position for 30 minutes after the procedure. So, I knew we still had a little time. First time I have actually been able to enjoy the food...knowing procedure went fine and she was just slowly waking up was a relief.

We shortly after got paged and went up to our girl, who was still waking up. Tonight we are celebrating a new routine. We will now go in every three months for spinal, instead of monthly. Such a welcomed change in the routine.
