Kneeling

Lexi has started to pull herself up into the kneeling position with her toys. Although she doesn't always get there, sometimes she does, and she always does with just a little assistance. If you bend one leg, she also pushes into a standing position. So, this is a great sign that she is starting to develop those leg muscles again.

However, she is constantly wanting to stand or kneel at her table or kitchen play set, and since she can't do it on her own, she wants you to be with her constantly these days. We are allowing her to get a little frustrated by not helping at times, so she has the motivation to figure it out herself. We're hoping that having the discipline to not jump to her aide right away is the right parenting move, and it's also a little entertaining to watch her try to figure things out like this. I always wonder exactly what is going through that head of hers.

Rock Star

Lexi went to her first concert on Saturday night. Every year, St. Louis has a series of concerts on the levee right underneath the Arch, so we figured we would go check out the festivities and all the kids activities they have to offer. We got there early and had plenty of choices where to sit, so we chose right under the Arch at a good distance from the stage for the sake of Lexi's ears. The kids activities turned out to be a little too old for Lexi, so we just enjoyed the sunshine and people watching, which Lexi loves to do these days. She's getting really good at making friends by staring at people, which only a baby can get away with.

The concert, which consisted of a local band and then Gretchen Wilson, was very entertaining. We planned on probably leaving part way through, but a large crowd gathered around us and boxed us in, so we couldn't figure out how to get the stroller out and decided to just stay until the end. I did feel a little guilty when the encore song was Redneck Woman, and there was a blowup woman on a 4-wheeler with a baby on her hip as the prop. I felt like we were being just as bad with Lexi still at the concert late at night, but she didn't seem to mind. Afterward, they shot off fireworks over the river, which Lexi was really entertained by as well. As long as we didn't do damage to her ears (which I highly doubt with the distance), I think her first concert went really well.
