Daddy Time

Laura got a little break this weekend, which means the kids had daddy time. He took them to the mall for the carousel and train, Chuck E Cheese, made pizzas with them, had a Blackhawks party (although he didn't let them stay up long enough to see them clench the division), and created a new lava game. Needless to say, the kids asked if mom could go away every weekend!

Moog Graduation

Alexis graduated from the Moog Center For Deaf Education today. Two years ago when we were trying to decide whether or not to send her there or public kindgerarten, we went with our gut and went for it. I don't think we have ever been more happy about a decision in our entire life (except maybe our pediatrician choice)!

Starting from the minute she started there, she went from a child with no words, no ability to communicate, no ability to show her cognition, etc and transformed into an amazingly smart, funny, and articulate kid. They are truly amazing there, and we will forever be grateful for the little girl they pulled put of Alexis. It is truly remarkable.

So, today we celebrated her and their accomplishments for getting Alexis to where she is ready to go 100% mainstream next year. Alexis sang a song with her class, sang with the graduating kids, and did a little interview. She was so amazing, and we are so happy to have such an amazing place in our back yard!

Papa's Gardening Lessons

Papa came down and brought some of his own home grown in his greenhouse plants. So, the kids spent some time today planting tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and a variety of peppers. They also helped mom later plant flowers and additional veggies. They are becoming quite the gardners!

Wrong Lesson

Alexis: tomorrow is a holiday.
Me: that's right. It's Memorial Day. Do you know what we celebrate on Memorial Day?
Alexis: no
Me: we celebrate the lives of those that have died before us.
Conner: who died?
Me: well, my dad did. We can remember him.
Conner: how did he die?
Me: he had cancer.
Conner: Lexi has cancer. Why doesn't she die?
Me: she's getting medicine to make her better.
Conner: did they not have medicine for your dad?
Me: there are other people who served our country other than my dad that we celebrate. They protect us so we can do whatever we want.
Conner: How do they protect us?

Ok, time to change the conversation and revert back to its just a day that dad doesn't have to go into work, as the real conversation hits too close to home about death and guns!
