Conner didn't make very good choices at Alexis's horse lessons, so I finally said, "if you don't stop, I'm going to throw away some of your valentines." Needless to say he didn't stop and when I went to follow through with my threat, he responded, "Throwing those away are a waste of money. Those people didn't do anything and you are wasting their money for nothing." Luckily he was satisfied with me saying he was the one that had decided to waste their money and not me.
This week the boys were fighting over a napkin, so I picked it up and threw it away, which resulted in Conner throwing a huge fit. At the end he declared, "you never do anything nice for me." So, I decided to make a point to ensure he realized just how lucky he was. I did a couple things of refusing to help, but when it came to lunch, I said he had to make his own since I don't do anything nice. He responded, "but I can't make my own lunch." I told him he had to figure it out at which point he said, "but I can't use knives or I will hurt myself." In the end he made a disgustingly filled peanut butter roll up that he could barely eat. He declared that I actually did do some nice things for him. Small victory? Let's just hope I can keep up when he gets older and smarter.
