Instant Friends

Brian's Aunt Pam and Uncle Dan came into town for a visit. They were in town for a conference, but we got to hang out with them on several occasions. Lexi fell in love with Pam from the moment Lexi saw her and kept wanting to play with her and giver her hugs. I guess Pam has that natural grandmother feel!

How to Change a Diaper

Lexi certainly provided some challenging and entertaining diaper changes when she was a baby, especially with her full body cast. Since Conner always tries keep up with his big sister, we shouldn't be surprised that he has invented his own challenges in diaper changing. In an effort to keep updating our past advice, here is our latest advice on how to change a diaper, using our most recent experiences with the little man.

  1. Place the baby on his back and on the ground for ease of change. Also do this for safety sake since he is so fat he's already outgrown the pack n' play basket weight limit at 6 months, and he tries to crawl off the nursery changing table at every opportunity.

  2. Quickly try to undo the velcro straps from the front of diaper.

  3. Watch in awe as the baby immediately flips from front to back and marvel at how his strength is no match for your trying to flip him back over. Accept the defeat and make the most of the situation.

  4. Given you failed to get the straps undone before the flip, try to wedge your smallest finger under the baby's body to undo the them. Get a few nice rug burns on your finger for your trouble. Finally get the velcro undone.

  5. Fight with your 2 year-old to hand you one of the 20 wipes she has pulled out of the container "to be helpful" during the lengthy process of getting the diaper undone.

  6. Quickly use said wipes to try and wipe the baby clean prior to him crawling away from you and smearing anything on the carpet.

  7. Try to grab the clean diaper you set aside earlier, only to find the helpful 2 year-old thinks she plays a starring role here as well. Convince her to hand you the diaper she is trying to open, exercising as much patience as possible given an accident on the floor is imminent.

  8. Diaper now in hand, consider flipping him over to his back to go the conventional route. Wisely give up that thought and instead grab both legs, hoist the baby's lower body into the air, and then slip the front of the diaper under the baby.

  9. Secure both velcro straps around the baby, again by wedging your finger between him and the floor.

  10. Try to flip him over to make certain the diaper looks somewhat straight. If you fail, pin your hopes on fact that Pampers makes good enough diapers to avoid spillage even if not installed properly

  11. Repeat wrestling match every 3 hours or so. Ignore the 2 year old audience mocking you with laughter at every futile attempt.
