Preparing

We did a lot of baking today and preparing for Christmas. The kids had a great time helping with the Christmas cookies as we listened to Christmas music and hung out as a family. Gavin enjoyed shoving everything in sight in his mouth. You would have thought he was the one on steroids. So, he got banned after a while, as we didn't need another puker.

We are doing a lot of Christmas prep around here. Since we don't know what the next fee weeks will bring, we want to get as much done as early as possible, so we are ready for anything. Alexis has been hit hard by this round. She is very tired and more weak. She also has pretty bad diaper rash from all the diarrhea. So, she's not in the best spirits, but trying to be a good trooper. Each round hits different kids differently, and this round, for whatever reason, is hitting Alexis pretty hard. We hope these preapation gestures are pointless, but we can't risk the alternative with how she is feeling right now. Such a great day, and that's what we will focus on...the day to day!

Medical highs and lows

Alexis had her next round of treatment today. She got dox and vincristine. Both went in fine, but she was pretty tired the rest of the day. Her counts were good. I was a little surprised that the red blood was ok, as she has seemed very tired the last fee days. She wasn't pale, though, so explains that part.

We also discussed the treatment for the rest of the protocol. She will now have two weeks off. The week before Christmas, she will go in for her next spinal chemo as well as starting two new chemos. She will be given that chemo daily for two weeks. If you do the math, that means chemo through Christmas. They aren't sure they will have someone to give the chemo on Christmas, so we may have to be trained to administer it through the IV on our own. Nothing like a new challenge on Christmas.

The test of the day, she was pretty tired. We drove around for a little bit looking at Christmas lights, so she would sit and relax. I'm ready to be done with this protocol already, but thankful she has stayed out of the hospital.

In good medical news, we also had an appointment with Alexis's pulmonologist. He assessed her and her recent colds. Since she currently had a cold, he was able to listen to her cough as well. Given all this, he believes that we trachea is firming up and not collapsing as often. He thinks she's on her way to outgrowing  her tracheamalacia. This is great news considering she is more susceptible to colds right now. This means that hopefully her lungs can help her fight off the colds, since her immune system won't be doing its job. At least she won't have two things working against her to cause pneumonia!

Summer in November

Today was absolutely incredible. The sun was shining and it got up to 70 degrees! So, we headed to the park and played and had a picnic to take advantage. The kids had a blast, esp when dad decided to lift then up on a rock for their picnic. Great day, as by the end the temps were already in the thirties, so great to take advantage.
