Trip

We got permission and risked taking a trip. Brian's cousin was getting married, and we wanted to make it to the wedding. The doctors said as long as her counts were ok, we minimized exposure to others and places, she didn't have a temp, and we knew where the local hospitals were, that we could go ahead and try. Since it was our hometown and we felt comfortable with the hospitals and the care there, we decided to try it. We drove the four hours and didn't stop at all. We pretty much expected our four-year-old and our six-year-old to not have any potty accident for four hours. We just didn't think it was worth the risk that she would get some germs in a gross bathroom at a gas station. The good news is that the kids were very successful with this. The bad news is now we know they can do it, so will probably push further between stops for them on future car trips.

We landed at Laura's moms house right before the wedding on Friday. She only had the kids for a couple hours before they went to sleep. Alexis only needed her chemo during that time, so we arrange for Laura's brother-in-law who is an ER nurse to come over and administer it. Brian and I were able to go to the wedding then, and we are very excited about the opportunity to get out and celebrate this marriage.

On Saturday, we just stayed at Laura's moms house, so we didn't introduce Alexis to any new germs at any other houses. Brian's parents and brother and sister-in-law came over for a while but we kept all other visitors to a minimum to avoid additional germs. Alexis got to spend some good time with aunt Erica on Saturday, even choosing to take a nap in her lap. We also got taco pizza for dinner. Ever since spending cousin week up in the qc and Conner getting taco pizza with Papa and Mimi, we have heard nonstop about it. He constantly wants taco pizza all the time. This trip we quickly figured out that was because grandparents let him eat only the chips and no pizza. What ki wouldn't want chips for dinner!?!?!

It was a good weekend, and a very nice break to get away from our house even if it was just to spend time in somebody else's house.

New Tuesday

Alexis went in for her next round of chemo in her spinal fluid area. Although they are still not convinced that it is the chemo causing the seizures, since there is no other known medical cause, they took precautions to give her a different chemo this time. They may go back to methetrexate, since it is known to have a good impact on the leukemia, but for this round switched it up. She handled the procedure well, even working with her language teacher after. So far no side effects have been seen.

Gavin also started his Mother's Day out program today. Originally intended to give mom time to get her work done (her work is now put on hold given our current situation), it now gives him something to do on treatment days. Grandma had to take him to his first day, and she reported he ran into the class without even a goodbye. It helps that it is a great school and that he already knew his wonderful teacher. So far the new items this Tuesday seem to be treating us well.

Goalie success

Conner started soccer this year. Last year he did instructional soccer. This year, he is actually playing games on Saturday with practice during the week. He had to get shin guards as well, about which he was very excited. Dad took him to his first practice and was really excited (or proud would be more accurate) that Conner was able to stop a couple balls from reaching the net while he was playing goalie. Unfortunately, we've had quite a bit of rain, so some have been rained out, but we are hoping for better weather soon! The first game went okay, but transitioning from having your own ball all the time to fighting over one ball is a change!
